After almost two years of lockdown, this party season is set to be bigger, better and more glam than ever before. To help provide a little hair-spiration, celebrity hair stylist and Sally Beauty ambassador, Mikey Kardashian, shares his favourite and most requested party season styles below, plus how you can re-create them like a pro at-home.

Ten Minute Textured Waves

“Textured waves are a style I love and do a lot. The beauty of this look is that you can take as much or as little time you want to do it, making it the perfect option for anyone tight on time or who’s running straight from work to the office party.”

How to do ten minute textured waves

Step One

Take verticals sections of hair and rope wind it around a wide tong or wand, keeping the ends out so they stay straighter.

Step Two

Repeat this around the head in alternating directions, this will create body and dimension.

Step Three

Add a little texture powder or dry shampoo through the roots to add extra grip and height, and then through the mid lengths when finished for that airy textured look.

Ten Minute Textured Waves

“My second look is the half up, half down that I do a lot for Tamara Ecclestone and Kelly Brook. It’s great for that hair that’s a day or two old and for when you want something dramatic and sexy for the party season.”

How to do half up half down hair

Step One

Work through your hair in sections with a large tong to create loose curls. These don’t have to be perfect – we’re just after some movement.

Step Two

Next, section the hair across the top of the head ear to ear and smooth out with a comb to ensure there are no lumps and bumps. Secure that top section of the hair with a hair tie or hooked hair band.

Step Three

Finish with a spritz of your favourite hairspray to keep everything in place. Mikey loves something like TIGI’s Bed Head Hard Head hair spray for this as it gives superb hold and you can smooth any flyaways around the front of the face.

Hair That Sleighs

“Look three is a classic snatched braid, perfect for anyone that’s caught short on hair wash day but still wants a fierce dramatic look that will turn heads at the office party.”

How to do a fierce braid

Step One

Taking a comb or brush, pull your hair into a smooth high pony - if you have quite unruly hair naturally, you might want to give it a quick going over with some straighteners to make sure it’s super sleek before you begin.

Step Two

Next, begin to braid the pony. Once you get about an inch or two away from the end, secure it with a hair tie and use a serum or smoothing balm through the ends to create a super smooth finish.

Step Three

When your braid is in place, grab a shine-enhancing serum, oil or spray and work this carefully around the front and sides of the crown, to make everything look really sleek.

Finish with a good spritz of hairspray to keep your style in place all night long.

TOP TIP

As for Mikey’s piece of advice for fine hair types?

“Any fine-haired girls out there may also want to consider adding some clip in extensions or hair pieces to the pony to give the look a bit more height and drama.”
