Since 2017, we’ve surveyed and interviewed 696 hairstylists to understand their environments, habits, and needs. Dyson engineers studied the challenges they face. A typical stylist sees between 4 and 16 clients per day, spending an average of 30 to 60 minutes styling each one, adjusting the hairdryer angle up to 30 times in a single session. Repetitive strain injuries, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, are very common among stylists.
These insights led to the creation of the Dyson Supersonic r™ hair dryer—a lightweight, adaptable tool for professionals that meets real-world demands while delivering superior styling results and experience.

Precision Air Jets
Two 1.5mm apertures along the arms of the Airstrait™ Air release high-velocity air blades. Angled at 45°, these streams converge to create a concentrated jet of air — straightening and drying hair simultaneously with control and precision.
Dyson Hyperdymium™ Motor
A powerful 13-blade impeller spins at up to 106,000rpm, moving 11.9 litres of air per second. Generates air pressure up to 3.6kPa for effective drying and styling. Intuitive airflow allows the Airstrait™ to detect when hair is between the arms and reduces airflow when it's not — for quieter, energy-efficient styling.
Style From Wet
Dry and straighten your hair at the same time with three temperature settings: 80°C, 110°C, and 140°C. Intelligent Heat Control monitors airflow temperature up to 30 times per second. This protects natural shine and helps prevent heat damage¹ with Glass bead thermistors in the arms.
