Your eyebrows can make or break your look. Essential for framing your face, it’s important to find the right shape, size and colour for you. From eyebrow shaping to defining, we have some tips to help you figure out how to perfect your eyebrows from the comfort of your own home.

How To Shape Eyebrows

Once you’ve decided which eyebrow shape you’d like to go for, use some tweezers to pluck away any stray hairs. Start off small – the last thing you want to do is remove too much! Having great lighting and a magnifying mirror are key to success.

Concentrate on below your natural brow and work on getting the perfect arch. Then, you can deal with any rogue hairs above and in-between your eyebrows. To complete your look, carefully trim away any hairs that are too long with some scissors.

How To Pluck Eyebrows

For a guide, draw on your ideal eyebrows with a brow pencil before you get to work. You can remove and reapply as many times as you like until you’re happy. This is where the more detailed tweezing starts – pluck away the excess hairs that fall outside the line you’ve drawn on.

Plucking will always be a little painful, but to minimise discomfort, use your free hand to stretch the skin you’re working on – you’re less likely to accidentally tweeze yourself this way. Once you think you’ve created your ideal look, brush your eyebrows, and make any adjustments to hairs you might have missed.

How To Fill in Your Brows

1. Brow Powders

Choose a brow powder that’s as close to the colour of your eyebrows as possible; normally this will be one or two shades lighter than your hair colour. Start in the centre of your brow and apply the powder towards the outer edge, then fill in from the middle to the beginning of the brow.

Start by using a soft touch until you’re used to how much pressure you need to apply to make the colour look natural. When you’re finished, use a brow brush, or a clean toothbrush in a pinch, to soften the colour and straighten the hairs.

2. Eyebrow Pencils

Eyebrow pencils are a more common way of filling in your brows, but they are harsher than powders and can mat the hair, so need a light touch. Apply it more gently than how you would brow powder, and soften any harsh lines with your fingers or a clean Q-tip. Remember your goal is to shade the brow, rather than draw it on.

3. Eyebrow Gels

If your brows are on the thin side, an eyebrow pomade or gel is the perfect solution to make sure they look thick and natural. Add shine to your brows by applying the gel from the inside out, but try not to get any on your skin, as it’s harder to wipe off than powder or pencil. The longer bristles on the gel brush are good for setting the brow in place, then you can use the shorter bristles to work on intricate detail.
