Styling Tool Myth Busting
Does One Size Fit All?
If your skin becomes dry, you wouldn’t reach for your friend’s
skincare product that are designed for their oily skin…so why would
your hair styling tools be the same when their hair type is completely
different?
Depending on length, texture and condition, all
hair needs tools that are designed to work best for their hair. One
size does certainly NOT fit all when it comes to hair tools.
Putting
a hairdryer on the hottest setting and removing the nozzle to dry your
hair quicker can be damaging to more fragile and finer hair types and
causes breakage. The same goes for setting the heat on your styling
tools to the highest setting; 230C is too hot for most hair types and
causes damage that can be easily avoided by using the right tools.
So how do I choose what is best for me?
Fine Hair
If your hair is fine, even if you have a lot of it, then it will
style at much lower heat settings than thicker and coarser hair
textures.
Many heat stylers on the market often reach
up to 230C, which is not suited for finer and more fragile hair
types.
Thick/Curly Hair
If you have thick and/or curly hair then styling your hair can be a big task. Choose a styling tool with wider plates as this means more hair covered in each glide and less time spent styling. Larger plates also help with heat distribution meaning your hair is smoothed from root to tip without compromising on the condition of your hair.
Our Recommendation
For Beginners
If you are just joining the world of styling tools then it can be quite overwhelming and difficult to perfect hand eye coordination when creating curls. Use a tool that takes the work of the process and delivers perfect results every time so you hair can be at its best.
Short Hair
If you are rocking a bob or are growing one out then consider purchasing a tool that will suit your hair at all lengths. Conical wands are ideal for creating a variety of styles, from tight curls to loose waves so whatever your length or look this tool is a must have.
Damaged Hair
For hair that has been chemically processed or over heat styled at home then a gentle form of styling should be used to reduce further damage. Using steam when styling helps to lock in moisture to damaged hair and creates shiny and smoother results on straight or curly styles.
*Measured as breakage from repeated combing after 15 uses on
bleached hair. SteamPod 4 versus Babyliss Ceramic Straight 230.
**Hair
is straighter with 1 pass of SteamPod 4 versus 3 passes of Babyliss
Ceramic Straight 230.
***After 1 pass, SteamPod 4 versus
Babyliss Ceramic Straight 230.
